UK mobile commerce consumers prefer Apple devices, study finds

The ecommerce environment is changing as consumers continue to use mobile devices. In fact, a new study from commerce website designer BaseKit found that 66 percent of people in the U.K. who make purchases online tend to do so via iPhones, over other smartphones.

Tablets, on the other hand, are not as popular for making online purchases. Even as these gadgets continue to remain in high demand, they are not regularly used for ecommerce purposes. In fact, only 4 percent of U.K. residents use tablets to make purchases online, and the majority of those individuals use iPads, BaseKit reported.

"There's huge hype and publicity at the moment around tablets so it's perhaps surprising to see that this isn't being translated into general use amongst Brits [for mobile ecommerce activities]," said BaseKit chief executive officer Juan Lobato.

According to a report by ABI Research, shoppers around the world are expected to purchase $119 billion worth of goods and services through mobile platforms in 2015. This suggests that the mobile ecommerce market is expanding and businesses should enhance their mobile websites and transaction management solutions to prepare for the trend.
