Mobile commerce among top trends for 2012

Realizing that mobile commerce is the future of online retail, many organizations will work to implement transaction management and other programs equipped to handle such activity, according to a recent CIOL report.

The news provider named mobile commerce among its top technology trends for 2012. Others include the cloud, consumerization and improved enterprise applications.

"In the wake of explosive mobile phone penetration, mobile commerce and near-field communication will see a surge in 2012 and serve as pivots for an intelligent ecosystem towards customer delight," report stated.

However, the report stated that the security of mobile transactions is one potential roadblock. Once retailers clear up such concerns, mobile commerce activity could really take off and become more popular than both in-person shopping and ecommerce, according to the CIOL report.

For companies, a key aspect of growth will be to increase their mobile commerce visibility in search engine queries and other online channels.

A recent Entrepreneur highlighted several success stories that small businesses have experienced through mobile commerce capabilities. Many companies discussed by the news provider realized that keeping up with their competition meant they had to embrace the shift toward mobile shopping.
